One Direction, Florence + The Machine and Pharrell Williams will perform some of their most intimate shows to date in London next month, the Standard can reveal today.

The acts are the first to be announced as headliners for this year’s Apple Music Festival, which takes place at The Roundhouse in Camden.

The event, formerly known as the iTunes Festival, is once again partnered by the Evening Standard.

One Direction have been busy working on their fifth album and spoke of their excitement at playing in front of a home crowd on September 22.

Niall Horan said: “It’ll be great to be back in London and we can’t wait to perform for our fans in the Roundhouse and around the world on Apple Music. See you there!”

Williams, who will be performing on September 26, said: “Wow, I’m so grateful to be performing at the Apple Music Festival. The Roundhouse is such an historic venue ... there’s always a special energy in the crowd. Thank you for having me!”

Florence + The Machine are due to perform on September 28, with singer Florence Welch saying the band were excited to be appearing at “the wonderful Roundhouse”.

Surrey dance duo Disclosure will also be at the festival. Their show takes place on September 25, the day their second album is released, which they said made it “extra special”. They added: “We’re super excited to play our first ever show for Apple Music Festival at the Roundhouse, one of our favourite venues in London.”

Tickets for the shows will be free and are available to Standard readers on our website as well as through the Apple site. They will also be available to watch live and on demand for free on Apple Music, iTunes or with Apple TV.

“We wanted to do something really special for music fans this year,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services.

“The Apple Music Festival is a greatest hits set of 10 unbelievable nights featuring some of the best performers on the planet.”

Apple has hosted the iTunes Festival in London for eight years. It has renamed the event the Apple Music Festival to honour the launch of Apple Music.

Past performers include Adele, Coldplay, Elton John, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Muse and Sir Paul McCartney.

Six further acts will be announced shortly. Keep reading the Standard for more information and for chances to win tickets, or go to applemusic festival.com
