VMAs 2018: Results from the MTV awards last night with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj among acts to scoop prizes at star-studded awards night

Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj are among music stars to scoop prizes at this year’s long-awaited MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

Accepting the Best Pop prize for her hit song No Tears Left To Cry, Grande thanked her fans, her family and fiancé Pete Davidson, who was seated in the audience.

Jennifer Lopez, who performed at the star-studded awards night, received a standing ovation as she accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

The 49-year-old arrived at the ceremony with her partner Alex Rodriguez, who took pictures of her on his phone while she posed on the red carpet.

Camila Cabello scooped the coveted Artist Of The Year Award.

The 21-year-old Cuban-American singer won the prize ahead of Drake, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Post Malone and Bruno Mars.

Accepting the award, Cabello, who rose to fame as part of the girl band Fifth Harmony, praised her fellow female nominees.

She said: "Shout out to all the amazing female artists this year."

The VMAs was opened by rapper Cardi B who appeared on stage cradling an object wrapped in a towel.

The new mother, who led the way in nominations with 10, welcomed daughter Kulture in July, her first child with Migos rapper boyfriend Offset.

But fans anxious to get a first glimpse of the little girl were disappointed when she revealed she was carrying a Moonman, the statue awarded to VMA winners.

Cardi B, who debuted a new shorter hairstyle, then introduced Canadian singer Shawn Mendes on to the stage, who performed his hit single In My Blood.

Song Of The Year - Post Malone (Rockstar)

Best Latin - J Balvin/Willy William (Mi Gente)

Best New Artist - Cardi B

Best Collaboration - Jennifer Lopez, DJ Khaled and Cardi B (Dinero)

Video Of The Year - Camila Cabello (Havana)

The first prize of the night was Best Hip-Hop, which was won by Nicki Minaj for her song Chun-Li. She beat out competition from Cardi B, the Carters, Drake, J Cole and Migos.

An emotional Minaj thanked Grande during her acceptance speech.

The award for Song Of The Year went to Post Malone.
