Moby has unveiled a new neck tattoo which celebrates his vegan lifestyle.

The musician, real name Richard Melville Hall, posted an Instagram photo yesterday showing the words “Vegan for life” tattooed onto his neck in block capital letters.

In his caption, the 54-year-old said that his inking was “a pretty safe bet” as he has been vegan for “almost 32 years.”

“I’ve been a vegan for almost 32 years, so getting this tattoo seemed like a pretty safe bet,” he wrote.

“Also, working for animal rights and animal liberation is my life’s work. And to state the obvious, it’s a double entendre…”

The singer credited his new tattoo to Kat Von D, the former star of US reality show LA Ink who is famed for her animal rights activism and for her eponymous make-up brand, which is vegan and cruelty free.

Standard Online contacted Moby’s representatives for further comment.

Animal rights organisation PETA praised Moby for his “dedication,” writing on Instagram: “We LOVE it! Your dedication to helping animals is far beyond the commitment to this tattoo.”

The musician is well-known for his advocacy of a plant-based lifestyle and owns Little Pine, a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles.

He also founded Circle V, a music festival which celebrates animal rights and raises money for animal protection charity Mercy for Animals.

Discussing his beliefs in an Instagram post shared earlier this month, he explained: “I’m a vegan and an animal rights activist for myriad reasons; human health, climate change, antibiotic resistance, etc, but ultimately I’m a vegan and an animal rights activist because I believe that every animal is entitled to live their life according to their own will.”
