Margot Robbie is the best friend we've always wanted. She's funny, pushes for change, has a roaring career, famous friends and a down-to-earth attitude. So it's no surprise we're desperate to hang out with Hollywood's latest 'It' girl.

We loved her as Donna Freedman in Neighbours and we're still obsessing over her now, so here's eight reasons why she'd make the best best friend.

1. She's great at her job

Robbie would be the kind of friend to make you proud - and motivated. The Australian star has an enviable CV, and she's only 26. She stormed up the ranks with incredible force to become a movie star off the back of a scattering of films. She disappears into her characters, whether it's playing a provocative gold digger (The Wolf of Wall Street), a con artist (Focus), a nuclear apocalypse survivor (Z for Zachariah) or a fantastically psychotic anti hero (Suicide Squad). She's also not afraid to tell her co-stars what to do, and once revealed she left Leonardo DiCaprio in shock after pushing his head out of the light so her legs could take centre stage. Sorry, Leo who?

2. She won’t lose weight for anyone

Bafflingly, Robbie was asked to follow a strict diet for her role as Jane in The Legend of Tarzan - but she wasn’t listening. She told producers that a woman in the 19th century probably wouldn’t have a gym honed body and quite frankly it was her first time living in London and she just wanted to try out every pub in the capital. Margot, the drinks are on us!

3. She's playing Harley Quinn

Who doesn't want a friend who has played a supervillain? It could be of use when faced with over-confident male fans and troublesome Uber drivers. Robbie's latest role saw her play the Joker's accomplice and romantic interest in Suicide Squad. But Robbie didn't simply shoot the film and turn to the next job, she was overcome with comic book fever and reportedly pitched a spin-off movie featuring the women from the DC Universe to Warner Bros..

4. She loves Infernos

She’s no doubt got a phone book to rival the Oscars guest list and a bulging bank balance, but Margot Robbie likes to slum it like the rest of us. Swanky bar? No. Private members club? No. This Hollywood gem loves getting sweaty with drunken 20-somethings at South London's Infernos. Robbie said she looks "revolting" by the time she arrives, so regulars have most likely belted out DJ Otzi's Hey Baby with her in the cheese room without knowing it.

5. She's open

There are two types of friends: those who will talk about anything and everything sober, and those who will only get going after a few drinks. Robbie, we imagine, is the open type. From interviews we know she's joined the mile high club and loves a shot of tequila. She even admitted to knocking back a few shots before filming her sex scene with DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street - although we're not sure why she needed to.

6. She’s not afraid to mock herself

If you take a bad picture of Robbie she won’t hound you with abusive messages to ‘remove the post’ or threaten to report you for sharing an inappropriate image. She’ll post it and poke fun at herself. The actress was recently papped midway through a surfing flop as she tried to ride a wave on holiday. In case people missed it she whacked it up on her Instagram account alongside the caption: “Photo cred to the creepy pap hiding in the bushes. Thanks for always catching me at my best angles #blessed.”

7. She texts Prince Harry and keeps him hanging

A-lister, Prince or childhood friend, Robbie will treat you all the same. Despite his status, Prince Harry doesn't get any special treatment from Robbie who keeps him "hanging" for weeks before she replies to text messages. The best bit? When they first met she didn't even know he was the fifth in line to the throne and spent the night thinking she was partying with Ed Sheeran. "I'd had a drink or drinks," she told The Sun. "I thought I was hanging out with Ed Sheeran. I was thinking 'Ed's a really cool guy. I'm going to take some pictures with him."

8. She's got a plan B... and C

This girl is business savvy. After feeling like "a little pawn getting moved around the board" she joined forces with her best friend Sophia Kerr, her boyfriend and his friend Josey McNamara to set up their own production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. Robbie said the move is "empowering" and was praised by Tina Fey for being on the "front foot" with her career. But before we forget, she also tattooed a handful of members from the Suicide Squad cast and crew, so if the production company and acting fails we know she'll always have money for a girls night out.
