Madonna has shared a defiant Instagram post after losing custody of son Rocco.

The pop superstar, who has been embroiled in a bitter court battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, posted a photo of herself under the word ‘b****’ after a court ruled in his favour.

She captioned the post: “Because sometimes soccer Mom's need to be.”

Just hours earlier, a New York court ruled that 16-year-old Rocco would continue to live with his father.

After a spokesperson for the New York State court system announced that an agreement had been reached, Ritchie's lawyer Peter Bronstein revealed that Rocco would be staying in London.

The dispute arose back in December last year when Rocco moved to London to live with father and ignored a court order to return to his mother in New York.

A court ruled that Rocco should return to New York, but did not issue a warrant to enforce the order, insisting that the former couple should resolve the matter between themselves.

New York State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Kaplan said: "No-one is disrupting his household other than the inability of the parents to reach a resolution.

"If they cannot resolve this matter then eventually the court will."

Ellen Sigal, a court-appointed lawyer for Rocco, said in March that the dispute was causing the teenager stress.

"It's been a very difficult time for him," she said in court. "We hope to put an end to this as soon as possible without exposing him to more litigation, press innuendo, any of that kind of thing."
