Made in Chelsea regular Alex Mytton said he will always be a “proper mummy’s boy” as he paid tribute to his mother after she lost her brief battle with brain cancer.

Mytton, 27, announced the news on Instagram in an emotional post in which he said the news had hit him “harder than I could have ever imagined”.

The reality TV star shared a black and white picture of his mother as he confirmed she died last week at Oak Hall care home, Surrey.

“I’m not usually very good at expressing myself on here emotionally or maybe just in general but I’m gonna attempt to make an exception,” he wrote. “Last week I had to say goodbye to my mum for the last time. After fighting, what now seems like a brief battle with brain cancer my mum finally succumbed to the disease.”

He described his mother as “the kindest, most caring, beautiful all-round woman and undoubtedly the biggest force for good” in his life and said he owes her “infinitely for shaping me to be the man I am today”.

He continued: “I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that life was going to be a struggle without you, and despite thinking I was mentally prepared for the inevitable when the inevitable actually came it hit me harder than I could have ever imagined.”

He said he felt like a “helpless little toddler” when she passed away before recalling all the times she had been there for him as a child.

“I was a proper mummy’s boy and even at my ripe age you still provided a subconscious safety blanket that followed me through life from afar,” he wrote.

“Now as I look ahead in a life without you I want you to know that that subconscious presence lives on and really I just want to say thank you so much for being an amazing mother to me, for showing me total compassion and love, I will never forget the memories, I will always love you and yes I will probably always ‘need you’.” He finished the post with kisses, two red hearts and the words: “Rest in Peace Mumma.”

Mytton also thanked MacMillan Cancer Support, the NHS and a nurse at Oak Hall care home who he praised for going “way above and beyond her duty”.
