Dumped Love Island contestant Joanna Chimonides has hit back at Michael Griffiths after he branded her “standoffish.”

The firefighter, who chose to remain in the villa after Joanna was kicked off the show earlier this week, criticised the couple’s dynamic in last night’s episode, telling fellow contestants: “It was always me coming to chill with her. That’s what I’m thinking now.”

In a series of Instagram Stories posted as she watched the episode from home, the reality star shut down his comments, revealing that she had tried to behave in a respectful way in order to avoid hurting Michael’s ex Amber Gill.

“So obviously I’ve had to just pause the TV purely because for me, being standoffish is more me having respect for those in the villa because of the fact that someone else is actually hurting in there,” she told her followers.

“It’s hard for me to watch this right now, I’m not gonna lie.”

The most recent instalment of the hit dating show also saw Michael confess that he still has feelings for his ex.

“Now that Joanna has gone, it has given me time to think about things, I’m not saying I don’t like Joanna, because I do,” he told friends.

“But I feel like because Joanna was there I actively avoided Amber.”

After the scene aired, the dumped islander added: “In all honesty, that was so hard for me to watch and right now I really don’t have any words. It’s so difficult.”

Speaking shortly after her departure from the show, Joanna confirmed that her relationship with Michael was now “on pause” as she felt like they were “in limbo.”

“Part of me expected Michael to leave with me, however I don’t want to be in control of someone’s life journey and if he wants to continue in the villa, to get to know someone else or see where things go, I’ve got respect for that,” she said.

“I am a bit in limbo about how I’m feeling about Michael. We got along well and had lots in common and laughed together but for me I need to put it on pause and then we can see what happens when he leaves the villa.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
