London Critics’ Circle Film Awards: Kate Beckinsale and Naomie Harris pick up top acting prizes

Kate Beckinsale and Naomie Harris both picked up acting prizes at this year’s London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.

The actresses collected gongs for their roles in films Love & Friendship and Moonlight during Sunday night’s ceremony at the May Fair Hotel.

Beckinsale, 43, was named Best British/Irish actor for her role in the Whit Stillman-directed film, while Harris won Supporting Actress of the Year for Barry Jenkins’ coming of age tale.

After a clean sweep at the Golden Globes Awards, La La Land picked up the award for Best Film a the first big UK film awards ceremony of the season.

Toni Erdman won Best Foreign Film of the year, while I, Daniel Blake picked up the prize for Best British/Irish Film of the Year.

The top acting prizes mirrored this year’s Globes, with Casey Affleck being named Best Actor for Manchester By The Sea and Isabelle Huppert winning the award for Best Actress for Things To Come.

Andrew Garfield won the Best Actor award for his work in Silence and Hacksaw Ridge while Mahershala Ali and Tom Bennett shared the Best Supporting Actor prize.

Other big prizes went to Lewis MacDougall, who won the award for Best Young British/Irish Performer for A Monster Calls and Babak Anvari, who won Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker for Under the Shadow.

Director of the year was another surprise, going to László Nemes, who pick up the award for Son of Saul.
