Lily Allen has been criticised over her response to Rita Ora’s tribute to Prince.

Ora, 25, remembered the iconic musician on Twitter after the news broke of his death, aged 57, on Thursday.

Remembering the time they worked together on the 2015 hit Ain't About 2 Stop, Ora posted: “This is coming from a place I never knew existed in my heart. You were so special to me your presence the music we created the dance-off's we used to have the laughing we shared.

"The funk oozing out of you was un-controllable. I'm not quite sure what to do with myself but I will miss you forever and always. I love you my dear kind friend. (sic).

"May all my prayers go to his family the whole band (you know who you are, I love you all so much) anybody who felt even one little bit of what I was lucky enough to experience face to face, and let us keep alive the one thing he knew would last forever, his music. I love you P. I will never forget you. Love your Rita. (sic).”

Responding to the lengthy tribute - in a tweet that has since been deleted - Allen replied: “Pics or it didn't happen.”

Her comments were slammed as being in bad taste with one user branding her "jealous" while another said her tweet was "tacky".

One user wrote: “Jealous flop b****.”

Another posted: "Lily Allen coming after Rita Ora over Prince is so tacky. Rita worked with the man. Let her feel her feels."

Following a barrage of criticism - which also saw TOWIE regular Vas J Morgan slam the comment - Allen later clarified her post tweeting: “I didn't mean that in a mean way, I'm just jealous you were so close to my idol. #superfan #ritabots go IN.”

Tributes poured in from fans and celebrities after Prince's publicist confirmed that the legendary singer had died at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Police were investigating a death at the estate after responding to a medical emergency at 9:43am.

His death came six days after his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Illinois to take him to a hospital.

A representative at the time said he had a bout of flu, but according to US website TMZ, the singer was rushed to hospital for a ‘save shot’ - an injection typically administered to counteract the effects of opiates.
