Liam Gallagher responds to Sacha Baron Cohen’s stab claim: ‘It wasn't one eye, it was both’
Liam Gallagher has responded to Sacha Baron Cohen’s claim that the singer threatened to stab him in the eye at a party.
Cohen – who took inspiration from the former Oasis frontman for his new Grimbsy character – explained how Gallagher threatened to stab him in the eye at a GQ Awards after party after he failed to tell a joke at Gallagher’s expense as they had agreed.
But a representative for the singer has since told NME: "Liam wants to clarify that it wasn't just the one eye, it was both".
Cohen recalled the incident on Conan, explaining: “I was in London at the GQ Awards and I said to my wife I’m going to make a joke about Liam Gallagher and he’s going to be there and she said ‘do not do that Liam Gallagher has a history of violence’.
Cohen explained that Gallagher gave him the OK, but he never got around to telling the joke.
He continued: “At the after party later on I go and sit next to Bono, [...] and Liam Gallagher goes ‘Why the f**k didn’t you say a joke about me tonight? You know what I’m going to stab you in the eye’.”
Cohen joked: "I've never heard such a specific threat... Eventually he didn't stab me but I thought to avoid confrontation by having my hair done like him in my next movie".
