Lady Gaga has called for an end to jokes about Kanye West as she posted a touching message to her “brother” following his admission to hospital.

The US rapper, 39, was taken to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Monday night to be treated for stress and exhaustion after “acting erratically”.

Lady Gaga, 30, has encouraged fans to show “compassion” for West during this “sensitive time”.

In a series of tweets she posted: “It's not funny to joke about anyone's possible or not possible mental illness, this is a sensitive time for many. Let's be kind and loving.

“While I don't agree with everything he does I hope the public shows compassion and for Kanye West and each other. One love. One Race (sic).”

The Poker Face singer praised West’s “bravery” at cancelling his whole St Pablo tour in the wake of his hospitalisation.

“Kanye West I support and love you brother,” she tweeted. “I see in you bravery and courage to stop this tour & take care of YOU. You are a GREAT artist.”

Gaga’s message of support comes days after fellow artist John Legend spoke about his concern for West.

He said: “We were with Kim [Kardashian] actually, you know, right before all of that. I was concerned by what I saw, so hopefully he's getting some rest and some time to figure things out.”

West’s admission to hospital came after a series of wild outbursts at his gigs which saw him throw his support behind Donald Trump and hit out at his friends Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Initial reports claimed that West had been handcuffed to a stretcher and placed on psychiatric hold after an “altercation” kicked off at his trainer’s house, but this has since been refuted.

They said: “There was a small altercation at the gym but he was deemed medically stable and decided to seek medical help at his doctor’s request.

“He is exhausted and currently dealing with sleep deprivation. He went to the hospital at will under the advice of his physician. He’s fine.”
