Kit Harington may be King in the North – but he was left with a black eye after a bust up in McDonald’s.

The actor turned up to his Game of Thrones audition with the painful bruise after he spurned on a man to fight him in the fast food restaurant.

Harington said he had ordered food with his then girlfriend and they asked to share a table with another couple, but after sitting down the man started to verbally abuse Harington’s girlfriend.

Recalling the incident to W he said: “We sat down and quite quickly he started being really rude to the girl I was with, calling her names.

“He called her something like, an ugly pig or something worse, and I got up and said, ‘No, no, no. You can’t call her that. Get up’. So I called him up for a fight which I’d never done before.”

He continued: “I realised I had to throw the first punch otherwise I would have looked like a complete wimp. I got battered.”

Despite being left with a black eye, Harington joked that it could have helped him to land the role of Jon Snow and thanked the man who gave it to him.

“I think that man who punched me may have helped me get the job, he said. So, if you’re watching this, thank you!”

Harington also revealed that he once fell asleep on the set of the HBO series while pretending to be dead. The actor said he was disorientated on waking and couldn't work out where he was.

"There is nothing scarier than waking up in the middle of Game of Thrones world, naked and with everyone standiong over you," he said. "I thought: 'Oh my God I've died and ended up in Westeros'."
