Kim Kardashian is facing a social media backlash after appearing to praise the flu for being an ‘amazing diet’.

The reality star caused controversy on Wednesday by tweeting that she was ‘happy’ that she had contracted the virus in time for the annual Met Ball.

“The flu can be an amazing diet. So happy it came in time for the Met lol #6lbsdown,” Kardashian posted.

A number of people were quick to hit out at the TV star for ‘glamorising’ a virus that claims thousands of lives every year as well as promoting negative body stereotypes.

One follower added: “@KimKardashian calls flu an 'amazing diet'” Influenza can be a life threatening condition! Get annual flu shot!”

Another posted: “Did Kim k really say the flu is an amazing diet ???? What type of airhead believes that.”

But many of the KUWTK star’s fans seemed convinced that she was joking about the illness.

“I'm pretty sure Kim K's flu tweet was heaped with sarcasm,” wrote one of her followers.

Another added: “Anyone that gets the slightest bit of upset about this is pathetic js.”

Kardashian was forced to leave the premiere of new film The Promise early on last week after being struck down by the flu.

After walking the red carpet at the opening of the Armenian genocide film, the star is thought to have made a speedy exit.

“She [Kim] saw the movie independently. She has the flu and pulled it together to do arrival press,” a source told Page Six.

“She attended in order to support the Armenian community by bringing attention to the film and honour her commitment to attend.”
