Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has paid tribute to The Prodigy frontman Keith Flint, as she revealed that his band were booked to perform at this year’s festival.

Eavis shared a video clip on Twitter of the group performing their number one hit Firestarter at the event in 1997, and described the musician as an “incredible frontman.”

“We are so saddened to hear about the passing of Keith Flint,” she wrote. “He’s played here so many times with the Prodigy and was booked for 2019. What an incredible frontman.”

She went on to hail their 1997 set, which marked the first time that a dance act had headlined the iconic festival, as “a huge, unforgettable moment.” The band also played at the festival in 1995 and 2009.

The 49-year-old was found dead at his home in Essex earlier today.

His bandmates Liam Howlett and Maxim Reality (real name Keith Palmer) confirmed the sad news in a statement, in which they described Flint as a “brother” and a “best friend.”

“It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint,” they said.

“A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”

Howlett said he has been left “shell shocked” and “heartbroken” by the news as he confirmed Flint had taken his own life.

The group released the album No Tourists in November 2018. They had been scheduled to play a string of live dates around the world later this year, and were also set to headline South West Four in London in August.

Rapper Stormzy is set to headline this year’s Glastonbury festival, with Kylie Minogue and Janelle Monae also confirmed to perform.
