The eagerly-awaited sequel to hit dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic World has been given a production date.

After months of speculation, it has been revealed that the follow-up will start filming in February 2017, with many scenes set to be shot in London.

According to reports, the forthcoming film will be called Ancient futures and will film first in Hawaii and then in the UK.

Jurassic Outpost and Reel News Hawaii have both reported that the primary part of production is likely to take place at Pinewood Studios.

Whether or not this means that parts of the sequel will actually be set in the UK remains to be seen.

Speaking to Wired, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, who has written the follow-up, said:

“[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island, that’ll get old real fast. […] What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?”

Stars Chris Pine and Bryce Dallas Howard are both set to return while one iconic actor from the past films recently hinted that he could be on board as well.

Jeff Goldblum, who appeared in the original films but not in Jurassic World, recently admitted that his ‘doors are always open’ to return to the franchise.

He told Consequence of Sound: “I'm nothing if not open. I’m like an open-faced sandwich. My door is not always open – I took the door off.

“I removed the hinges from the door. I’m too open. I’m like a chicken piccata.”

Ancient Futures is slated for release on June 28 2018.
