Jonathan Rhys Meyers has reportedly been detained by police” following an alleged altercation with his wife on an American Airlines flight.

According to TMZ, the Irish actor had reportedly been drinking when he landed himself in a verbal altercation with wife Mara.

Meyers then reportedly launched into an angry tirade “laced with profanities” which is believed to have upset other passengers.

The US publication alleges that the Dracula actor then stood up and went into the plane’s toilet to smoke an e-cigarette which is a violation of US law.

The 40-year-old then reportedly stopped vaping after a flight attendant asked him to stop. TMZ reports that Meyers has denied he was smoking the device.

The site claims Meyers was detained by police at LAX Airport on the tarmac after the flight landed.

Sources told the site that the argument was not verbally abusive enough to warrant a crime, resulting in the actor being released.

Meyers has allegedly been drunk in public before.

Last year, the star is believed to have suffered a relapse with wife Mara revealing the reason behind it.

She said: "With much sadness, we open our hearts to share that J and I lost our second child, who was baking in the oven.

“Child was very very much wanted (right now especially by J, so he took the news particularly not so well) and we are still working with coping skills over here... when life throws us curve balls such as these.”

She added: “Depression is a real concern from past abuse as well as alcoholism which he was born with. He has been able to turn any ugliness and hurt in his life into art and is the strongest person I know.

“I do not know anyone who has been through what he has been through and reached his level of successes. It does seem though that every time we seem to be making so much progress... sometimes it's like two steps forward, one step back”.
