Johnny Depp opens up about coping with divorce from Amber Heard: ‘I couldn’t take the pain every day’

Johnny Depp has opened up about coping with his divorce from Amber Heard, admitting that he “couldn’t take the pain every day.”

The Hollywood sensation told how he struggled to manage as stories emerged following the split, his mother’s death and his involvement with multiple lawsuits.

Speaking to Rolling Stones, Depp said: "I was as low as I believe I could have gotten. The next step was, ‘You’re going to arrive somewhere with your eyes open and you’re going to leave there with your eyes closed’. I couldn’t take the pain every day.”

He added that as a way of expression he started writing a memoir pouring out his feelings.

The 55-year-old said: “I poured myself a vodka in the morning and started writing until the tears filled my eyes and I couldn’t see the page anymore.

“I kept trying to figure out what I’d done to deserve this. I’d tried being kind to everyone, helping everyone, being truthful to everyone the truth is most important to me. And all this still happened.”

Depp's mother died, aged 81, on May 20 in Los Angeles around the time that his then-wife Amber Heard filed for divorce after 15 months of marriage.

Days later she obtained a temporary restraining order against Depp.

She said in court filings that the Pirates of the Caribbean star was abusive to her throughout their marriage, which she claimed culminated in an argument in May in which he threw a mobile phone at her face.

A lawyer for Mr Depp denied allegations of abuse and argued that Heard was "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse."

The estranged pair officially divorced on January 13, nearly eight months after they separated.
