Jo Whiley wants to “celebrate” getting older rather than having to “apologise” for it.

The TV and radio presenter, 53, rose to fame in the Nineties alongside Zoe Ball, who was announced on Wednesday as Chris Evans’s replacement on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

Whiley made the move from Radio 1 to Radio 2 in 2011 after 17 years at the station.

She is now also the ambassador for Seven Seas’ new joint care supplement and is trying her best to be well as she gets older.

“What I will do is try and make sure that I’m as fit and healthy as I can be. Anything that encourages people to have really great, active lives and not to have to apologise for getting older and celebrate it.

“Aging is something that happens, you can’t escape it. I just think that as you get older you start to lose people through illnesses, we’ve all lost people to illness,” she told the Standard.

“So the years that you have, you have to cherish and I’m so grateful that I’ve got my health so I’d never apologise for getting older.”

Whiley became the first woman to present a Radio 2 drivetime show in two decades when she joined Simon Mayo in the slot earlier this year.

Despite being sad to see her good friend Chris Evans step down from the Radio 2 Breakfast Shows, Whiley said that it leaves room for an “exciting” reinvention.

“I was really sad because Chris is a really, really great friend and he’s been a really great broadcaster and he’s been so fantastic at Radio 2,” she said.

“He’s one of those people who will always be chasing adventures so I totally understand why he’s moving on.”

Jo Whiley has partnered with Seven Seas to launch the new JointCare Supplex & Turmeric supplement. For more information, please visit: www.seven-seas.com
