Bafta winner Jenny Beavan is ‘absolutely not upset’ by Stephen Fry’s comments about her.

The costume designer, who was honoured during Sunday’s awards, isn’t remotely bothered that the host called her a ‘bag lady’ after she picked up her trophy.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: “Yes we are friends, and I am absolutely not upset, but I don't want to talk any further because if I talk about it - it will just create more fuss."

Comedian Fry decided to delete his Twitter account and leave the site after facing a backlash over his comments after the ceremony aired at the weekend.

Explaining his decision to leave the site in a post on his website, he wrote: “Think of it as not much more than leaving a room.

“I like to believe I haven’t slammed the door, much less stalked off in a huff throwing my toys out of the pram as I go or however one should phrase it.”

He added: “It’s quite simple really: the room had started to smell. Really quite bad.

“I don’t feel anything today other than massive relief, like a boulder rolling off my chest. I am free, free at last.”

Fry was bombarded with critical comments after his on-stage quip at Beavan despite explaining to fans that it was just a joke between friends.
