He has become known for his willingness to fully embrace the Met Gala theme with a series of outrageous ensembles, and Jared Leto did not disappoint at this year’s event.

The Oscar-winning actor arrived at the prestigious event wearing a red Gucci suit with gold embellishment, but it was his choice of accessory that really made waves on Twitter.

In a nod to Gucci’s A/W18 catwalk show, in which models carried replica human heads down the runway, Leto carried a scarily life-like copy of his own head down the pink carpet, prompting some of the funniest social media responses of the night.

“Jared Leto is coming for the Iron Throne at the #MetGala,” one Twitter user wrote, alluding to the recent bloodshed in the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

“Jared Leto bringing his own head to the met has the same energy as when jaden smith took his own hair back in 2017,” another fan observed.

“Look[s] more like Jared Leto than Jared Leto,” another post joked, while one Twitter user suggested that the creepy trick "explains why Jared Leto hasn't aged a day since My So-Called Life."

The star later passed the replica over to singer Shawn Mendes as they passed one another on the pink carpet, prompting some confusion - and hilarity - from Twitter users.

“Did @shawnmendes bring a Jared Leto head or did @JaredLeto bring a Jared Leto head?” one commenter asked.

Others claimed that the star had “just killed” the event, praising Leto for always rise to the occasion with his Met outfit.

“Jared Leto on his way to show the other men how it’s supposed to be done,” one fan wrote, while another added: “Jared Leto never plays around man. Always bold.”

This year’s gala is an ode to Susan Sontag’s Notes on Camp, and is co-chaired by Harry Styles, Lady Gaga and Serena Williams.
