James Martin admits he had ‘half a bottle of wine for breakfast’ as he shuns clean living

James Martin has shunned the clean living trend, admitting that he had wine and duck for his breakfast.

The chef and former Saturday Kitchen host said that celebrity ‘cooks’ shouldn’t be lecturing people about their food choices unless they’re qualified nutritionists.

“I trained in some of the best restaurants in the world I’m not going to do that a disservice by cooking wheat grass,” he told Woman magazine.

“If you’re lecturing people you should be a nutritionist. The problem is these cooks – and they’re cooks, not chefs – just want to be famous so they’re lecturing people on what they should eat and it’s a dangerous game.”

Martin went on to say that most chefs wouldn’t promote clean-eating in their restaurants.

“You won’t find a chef doing that. I had half a bottle of wine and a baguette with duck confit for breakfast.”

Martin, who stepped down from his role on the BBC show after more than a decade last year, recently admitted that a tragic incident prompted him to resign.

During an interview on Good Morning Britain, the chef revealed that he seen a stranger die in front of him, which led him to re-evaluate his own life.

“I was chatting to him and he stood up on stage and collapsed and passed away in front of me and that was my decision to change,” he said.

“I looked back at all the work I’d done and had four days off that year and five days off the previous year and I thought something has got to change.

“That was part of the reason why I gave up the Saturday morning job.”
