Indian Summers star Aysha Kala today said she was overwhelmed after being named by Bafta as one of the rising stars of British television.

The 24-year-old, who grew up in London and lives near Chigwell, Essex, recently finished filming the second series of the Channel 4 drama set in India.

She said she could not believe she had been named in the list of 18 Bafta Breakthrough Brits announced at a ceremony last night.

Kala said: “Meeting the other [winners] was kind of overwhelming because I was thinking, ‘Why the hell am I here?’ They’ve all done such incredible things.”
