Idris Elba has shut down rumours that he is romantically linked to Madonna.

The celebrity pair sparked romance rumours when Madonna was pictured ringside cheering on Elba as he made his kickboxing debut at York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday night.

Madonna kept fans updated with Elba’s fight on Snapchat before sharing a picture of herself alongside Elba on the floor with the caption: “I kicked his butt.”

Elba slammed romance reports on Twitter, writing: “Am I sleeping with Madonna? No m************... "Don't believe the Hype".

His tweet came hours after it was reported that the pair were "all over each other” as they celebrated Elba’s win at M restaurant.

A source told The Sun: “There was nothing subtle about it, no attempt to hide. It was very blatant.

“They were at the party for about an hour, they would dance, go off to smooch, then mingle a bit more. They only had eyes for each other. That seemed very, very clear.”

Elba and Madonna have known each other for years, and last year the Like A Virgin singer invited Elba to support her on her Rebel Hearts world tour.

Speaking about opening for the Queen of pop, Elba said at the time: "I am a DJ for hire, and she wanted a great one! I was excited, I had a great time. Madonna is a legend. I got there, I met a beautiful person that has been working for ever and ever, Amen, and is still going."

Elba fought on Friday night for a new three-part Discovery Channel documentary, Idris Elba: Fighter, which follows the actor as he trains with Nigel Benn.
