Harry Styles is reportedly close to finishing his ‘authentic’ debut solo album.

The British pop star, who has also launched an acting career during One Direction’s hiatus, is thought to be close to releasing his own material.

Columbia Records CEO Rob Stringer has told Billboard that they are taking their time with Styles’ first solo record as he’s ‘here to stay’.

“We're close and we're very excited. We have a record we're incredibly excited about and it’s not far away from being ready,” he said.

“We obviously want everything to be beautifully done, because we think he's here to stay. Harry has stepped up with the vision of someone who's authentic.”

The music manager, who also represents Beyoncé and Adele, said that the reason that so many of the One Direction boys have been independently successful is down to their versatility.

“They didn't box themselves into a corner singing and dancing. It didn't have all the rules of the boy bands of the past where they're too boy-next-door, too sickly sweet. They weren't caricatures,” he said.

“And today, they're making smart choices. It doesn't surprise me that there's is a different path and they're doing pretty well.

“With One Direction, they became so big everywhere and from day one that their spread is much wider than other previous boy bands.”

Styles has also found time to try his hand at acting this year, having landed a role opposite Mark Rylance and Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming Dunkirk.
