Ashton Kutcher has demanded tighter gun control following the Las Vegas shooting, despite being a gun-owner himself.

The Netflix star, who has owned a firearm since the age of 12, posted a string of tweets on Tuesday asking for the US government to change gun laws.

Let's pray. Then let's change the law,” he tweeted. “I've had a gun since I was 12 yrs old but enough is enough. I'm a hunter and a sportsman but nobody needs these weapons.

“There's a middle ground here let's get to the table and find it.”

It is not clear if Kutcher will be giving up his guns in the wake of the mass shooting that took place on Sunday October 1st, which claimed the lives of at least 59 people and injured 500 more.

Country music star Caleb Keeter was at the festival when the shooting occurred and despite being a gun advocate has called for them to be banned.

“I’ve been a proponent of the 2nd Amendment my entire life,” Keeter said in a statement posted to Twitter.

“Until the events of last night. I cannot express how wrong I was. We actually have members of our crew with CHL licenses, and legal firearms on the bus. They were useless.”

For years, pro-gun activists have defended civilian ownership because they could be used to protect an individual in a similar situation.

Keeter said that the members of his crew who were carrying guns could not use them out of fear of being confused by police as attackers.

"We couldn't touch them for fear police might think that we were part of the massacre and shoot us," the singer said.

Ariana Grande has also called for tighter gun controls after the Vegas shooting. The singer's own concert in Manchester earlier this year was targeted by a terrorist and claimed the lives of 22 people.
