Emilia Clarke playfully alluded to the events of the latest episode of Game of Thrones as she shared a hilarious “family portrait” alongside her co-star Kit Harington.

The second instalment of the HBO series’ eighth and final season saw Harington’s character Jon Snow reveal that he is the son of Daenerys Targaryen (Clarke)’s brother, Rhaegar, and therefore her nephew, after the pair had embarked on a romantic relationship.

Clarke made light of the show’s latest reveal as she posted a snap of her and Harington pulling faces while they poked their heads through a Viking-themed cut-out prop.

Harington’s cut-out wore an outfit reminiscent of one of Jon Snow’s battle costumes, while Clarke’s even had flowing blonde hair.

“The family portrait,” she captioned the post, before slightly misspelling her co-star’s name with the hashtag #kitharrington.

She added: “#jeneregretterien #okmaybeiseetheresemblance.”

Discussing the moment that Daenerys learned of her close link to Jon, Clarke said that incest was “so normal” for her character, who is more concerned that her nephew has a stronger claim to the Iron Throne.

“The related thing, to her, is so normal,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

“She could have easily married her brother. It’s not a thing. It’s a thing for Jon, but let’s just forget about that. The main thing is we’re up for the same promotion and I’ve been working for it for my entire existence.

“There’s so much she’s taken on in her duty in life to rectify. There’s so much she’s seen and witnessed and been through and lost and suffered and hurt to get here… and Jon doesn’t even want it.”

Harington recently admitted that it was “really odd” to kiss his co-star while filming, as they had forged such a close friendship during their time on the show.

“Emilia and I had been best friends over a seven-year period and by the time we had to kiss it seemed really odd,” he told the Daily Mirror.

“Emilia, Rose and I are good friends, so even though you’re actors and it’s your job, there’s an element of weirdness when the three of us are having dinner and we had a kissing scene that day.”

A behind-the-scenes video shared by HBO also showed the actor pretending to gag after the pair filmed a romantic moment from the latest season.

Game of Thrones airs on Mondays on Sky Atlantic at 2am and 9pm and is available to stream on NOW TV.
