Beatles musician Andy White has died at the age of 85

The Scottish star, who played drums on a number of the band’s early tracks including Love Me Do, passed away on Monday.

White’s family have confirmed to the BBC that he died in New Jersey following a stroke.

They paid tribute to his "amazing humility and humbleness about his many achievements.”

The musician was chosen to play drums on the single version of Love Me Do back in 1962 and on its B-side P.S I Love You.

During an interview in 2012, White also claimed that he played on the single Please Please Me.

He said: “From the drum sound I can tell that I was on it, because it was a vastly different sound to Ringo's drumset at that time.

“This was before he got the Ludwig kit. Each drummer gets an individual sound, first of all by the way they tune the drums and then by the way they play the drums.”

White is also known for playing on hits including Lulu’s Shout and Tom Jones’ It’s Not Unusual.
