He’s not exactly known for being a heartthrob, but it seems that Eamonn Holmes bore a resemblance to a rather smouldering actor back in the day.

The journalist and presenter, who has just stepped down from his role at Sky News, has got fans very excited with his latest throwback picture.

And according to his Twitter followers, the 56-year-old doesn’t look dissimilar to a certain Ross Poldark aka Aidan Turner.

Posted on his Twitter account on Tuesday night, the unearthed snap shows Holmes wearing a high-collared coat and neck scarf and sporting a full head of dark hair.

“Even with just 3 days lie in from @SkyNews I'm beginning to see the difference in my looks.....Watch out @skysarahjane @jonathansamuels,” he wrote.

One fan quickly replied to say: “You are so good looking Eammon xx…Thought I was looking at Poldark there for a minute.”

Holmes stepped down as presenter of Sky News’ Sunrise programme last week after 11 years at the helm.

The 56-year-old journalist announced his departure in September saying he found himself “in the fortunate position of having so much to do but little time to do it".
