Love Island winner Amber Gill has admitted she was shocked when Greg O'Shea made the decision to split up with her last week.

During her first interview since news of the break-up emerged on Friday, Amber, 22, told the Loose Women panel that she had hoped to make her relationship with the Irishman work.

She said during Monday's show: "Obviously I am really disappointed - I didn’t expect it all."

Amber added that she was due to fly out to Dublin to appear on the Irish version of the Late Late show with Greg, 24, on Friday night, but she was forced to cancel because “it wasn’t working out”.

The beautician said that Greg cited their “careers and distance” as factors in the breakdown of the relationship.

However, Amber told the panel that she struggled to understand his reasoning, as they knew about both of those things when they first met in the Love Island villa this summer.

Greg - a rugby pro from Ireland - lives miles away from Amber's hometown of Newcastle, though he is currently spending a lot of time in London.

She told the panel: “It was always something that we knew about, so I don’t know what changed but I kind of wanted to make it work. It is what it is really.”

She added: “I am disappointed but I'm over it and I am booked and I am busy. I’ll be fine. Onwards and upwards from here.”

The Love Island winner also revealed further details about the split while responding to the Late Late show interview Greg did while seated next to his co-star Maura Higgins.

During the show, which aired on Friday night in Ireland, Greg denied dumping Amber by text.

Addressing his denial, Amber said: “From my point of view I still wanted to make it work and there was a call a few days prior, just chatting, but on the day [of the break up] it was just a text.

“I think there was some miscommunication but if you don’t want to be with someone you don’t.'

She said of their different locations: “I just wanted some effort from him to come to Newcastle or London to see me and he was like, ‘Okay, bye!’

“He’s a lovely guy, I am not sure what will happen in the future, it’s a bit of an odd situation.”
