Demi Lovato will reportedly be discharged from hospital this week.

The singer, 25, was rushed to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a suspected drug overdose last week.

She is being encouraged to check herself into rehab on leaving the hospital with friends threatening to turn their back on her if she doesn’t, according to US site TMZ.

A source told the publication: “She could die if she doesn’t, and that’s not going to be on my watch that we did nothing.”

Lovato was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious at her Hollywood Hills home last Tuesday.

She was treated at the scene with naloxone, an anti-overdose medicine, according to TMZ.

A representative for the singer later gave an update on her condition, saying in a statement: “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support.

“Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”

Lovato celebrated six years of sobriety earlier this year and documented her battle publicly, but she was reportedly struggling in private, with friends keen for her to shun the spotlight to help.

“Demi never wanted to be a role model. Her sobriety over the last six years was a fight every single day,” a source told People. “After she finally got clean, her team was very hard on her and treated her like she was a kid. It’s so hard to have all these eyes on you all the time.

“She thought she could handle it, but it’s a very slippery slope.”

Messages of support flooded in from fans and famous friends in the wake of her hospitalisation, including Kelly Osbourne, Kelly Rowland, Ellen DeGeners and brothers Nick and Joe Jonas.
