Coleen Nolan has announced that she has split from husband Ray Fensome after 10 years of marriage.

The Loose Woman panellist said she had fought "with every fibre of her being" to save the relationship.

Writing in her Daily Mirror column, Nolan confirmed the divorce, explaining that she felt unable to continue with her role as the paper’s agony aunt unless she was honest about the state of her marriage.

“Me and my husband Ray are divorcing. I wanted to tell you first as I can hardly sit here and keep dishing out advice if I’m not being totally straight about what is going on in my own life,” she said.

"There is too much dividing me and Ray. We can’t go back."

She also spoke about the "hellish" 12 months of relationship difficulties the couple endured.

"The last 12 months have been pretty hellish. I’ve been honest on Loose Women for a while that Ray and I have been having problems and it’s all I thought about in the Big Brother house.

"As I’ve written a million times before – women who’ve tried everything to fix a marriage but still feel desperately unhappy, have to get out. We owe it to ourselves. And we also owe it to our kids to show them that everyone has a right to be happy."

She continued: "My beautiful kids, Shane Jnr, Jake and Ciara – my daughter with Ray – have all been unbelievably supportive and understanding."

Nolan has previously opened up about going through couples’ therapy to improve her marriage on Loose Women.

"It does work for a lot of people, if you’ve come to a bit of a rut, you have to be apart to appreciate what you’ve got.

"Sometimes you're not appreciating each other and taking each other for granted, and you think the grass is greener on the other side."
