Singer Christine and The Queens says she turned the tables on a stalker fan to make sure she was okay.

The French artist, whose real name is Héloïse Letissier, described an “intense” experience with an admirer who got hold of her phone number and started following her.

She told ES Magazine: “I have empathy for those people because I was in a weird place myself at one point, so I did everything that my manager said don’t do.

“She told me to stop answering the calls, but I felt the need to explain things to her.”

The fan no longer bothers her, but Letissier still checks her Twitter account to see how she is.

Of her unconventional approach to fans, she said: “They stalk me, but I stalk them as well, really. I don’t think I am a pop star, I think I’m a stalker who turned out well, so when I meet them I have a strong sense of empathy.”

Letissier, 28, has had a successful month, winning two NME awards and an Elle style award.

She identifies as pansexual and is dating a Londoner, who she describes as having “a really imaginative and fluid personality”, and spends a lot of time in the capital.

She said: “We are two shape-shifters. This person is a dancer as well, so we have two important things in common: we can move and shape-shift.”

She added: “I’ve discovered Lewisham and south London ... this is where the good people are.”
