Chris Evans’ wife was overcome with emotion as she broke down live on air ahead of giving birth.

Evans called Natasha Shishmanian during his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show to check up on her in hospital ahead of her labour being induced later today.

“Hello Tash - so you've called in to see how I am? I’m fine thanks,” he said. “I'm not terribly nervous.”

Shishmanian joked: “Did you get any sleep? I do worry about you.”

Shishmanian, who is expecting twins with the BBC presenter, said she has been an “emotional wreck,” telling listeners: “I feel like I’m in control today, I’m pumped, I’m ready, let’s do this.

“Yesterday I was a bit of an emotional wreck, it was very overwhelming yesterday. There’s a lot of love and support and I’m very grateful but it was like, ‘oh my god, this is actually happening’.”

She then broke down as the couple discussed their final night as a family of four, with Evans joking: “There she goes again.”

Evans and Shishmanian, who tied the knot in 2007, already have sons Noah, nine, and Eli, six. Evans also has 30-year-old daughter Jade from a previous marriage.

Evans revealed in April that he is set to become a father again after asking his co-presenter Jules Lang for advice on twins.

“Twins. Double trouble. Twin turbo. We’ve known for quite a while. She’s definitely the mother, no doubt about that,” he joked.

He previously opened up about their struggle to conceive naturally, telling listeners that he and his wife were undergoing IVF in April 2017.

Their youngest son was also conceived with the help of the fertility treatment after Shishmanian almost suffered a fatal ectopic pregnancy in 2010.
