This year’s Celebrity Big Brother looks even more cramped than usual – the series welcomed a record number of 16 celebrities on its launch night.

As well as being under constant scrutiny from the viewing public, the contestants have to survive the daily grind of living with each other in very close quarters – the house is even smaller than it looks on TV.

That’s going to make it an interesting ride for former friends Danniella Westbrook and Christopher Maloney, who had a widely-publicised falling out and now find themselves in the Celebrity Big Brother house together.

Speaking before entering the show, Maloney explained that the dispute came over friendship loyalties.

“When [Westbrook] split up with her partner, he was still trying to be my friend. I struck up a friendship with him and I was caught in the middle,” revealed Maloney. “I think she thought that I took his friendship over hers, but it wasn’t like that. I don’t hate her. It’s just that we haven’t spoken.”

Maloney also said that they haven’t had a chance to speak because Westbrook changed her phone number.

Both parties have said they will be polite to each other on the show, but speaking before the show Westbrook seemed wary of potential arguments.

“If he tries to start an argument I’ll say, ‘I’m not interested, I know what you’re trying to do, I’m going for a cigarette’,” she said.

“I won’t be bullied into trying to talk about something or trying to make the peace. I’ll say to him ‘I will get on with you, we can have a really good laugh while we’re in the house, because we’ve got to live together’. At the end of the day it’s not the time and the place to discuss things.

Will the pair manage to keep it civil, or is it all about to kick off? Seeing as this is Big Brother, our guess leans towards the latter.
