Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell has entered the Celebrity Big Brother house for a secret task.

The 57-year-old, who has appeared on I’m A Celebrity in the past, made a surprise appearance on Tuesday night.

As part of a new task, Burrell will reside in the CBB house for the next few days while as he gives the Americans in the house a crash course in British etiquette.

Burrell, who was once a footman to Queen Elizabeth II and later Diana’s private butler, has been tasked with helping the US house mates to ‘serve’ the British contestants.

The house has been turned in to a Royal palace, with the American half of the house having to wait on the British celebrities hand on foot.

Upon entering the house, Burrell said: “Make no mistake about it. I am British.

“I’ll try to teach them a little of what I know, whether it’s service, manners, etiquette or, knowledge from my world that I learnt for many years by working with the Royal Family.”

He added: “I’m apprehensive because it’s a totally alien experience. I’m taking in a set of skills to educate the Housemates. I’m not a real Housemate though - I’m there to help so I’m not competing with them.”

Despite not entering the house as a competing house mate, Burrell was met by a chorus of boos during Tuesday’s live show.

Many fans took to Twitter to comment on the fact that Burrell had chosen the day after the 18th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death to make his appearance.
