Caroline Flack has revealed she turned to drinking wine to help deal with the stress of presenting The X Factor.

Flack, 36, and her former co-host Olly Murs were mauled by critics during their stint on the ITV talent show last year, with Flack revealing she was trolled on Twitter over her appearance.

Speaking about how she dealt with the criticism, she told The Sun: “I wasn’t feeling 100 per cent healthy or 100 per cent happy.

“I couldn’t turn to someone and say ‘fix me’ — I had to do that myself. I used to turn to wine if I had a stressful day. And I acted like it was a treat. But it’s not a treat.

“You’re just covering up your stress rather than dealing with it.”

Flack - who took over from Dermot O'Leary alongside Murs - previously admitted she hired a personal trainer during her time on the show as she was targeted over her appearance and weight.

In November she hit back at critics on Twitter over the "shocking" comments, tweeting: "It's very easy to take a shot at someone online. The vile comments about my weight and just all round look tonight are quite shocking.

"Have never said I'm the prettiest or thinnest or even anything special... But thank god I'm not horrible... Cool attitudes."

But Flack is not letting the negativity affect her return to Love Island and said she has become accustomed to filtering the nasty comments.

“Not everyone is going to like you," she said, "so you have to filter it.”

Flack will welcome singletons including current Miss Great Britain, Zara Holland, an international circus performer, and a physiotherapist-turned-model to the 'love island' when it returns to ITV2 later this month.
