Hugh Jackman will open next week’s BRIT Awards with a performance of his hit song from The Greatest Showman.

Jackson confirmed his latest gig, which will see him kick off the ceremony with The Greatest Show, with a funny social media clip in which he tells his dancers the news.

“We're opening the Brits," he says in the clip. “Oh no! I didn't tell you that, I didn't tell you anything... we're just going to rehearse, it doesn't matter what we're rehearsing for.

"Why don't we just work on The Greatest Show for no reason? Don't tell anyone, I shouldn't have told you."

The musical, which is based on the story of P.T Barnum and also stars Zac Efron, took the world by storm when it was released in late 2017.

The soundtrack has spent a record 59 weeks in the chart – including 28 at number one – and is currently on course to stay in the top five this week.

Jackman will be one of several stars to take to the stage next Wednesday, with performances from Little Mix, George Ezra and P!nk already among those to have been confirmed.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by Jack Whitehall, will see some of the biggest British artists fight it out for the coveted gongs.

Jess Glynne, Anne-Marie, Lily Allen, Jorja Smith and Florence & The Machine will all go head-to-head for British Female Solo Artist.

Ezra, Sam Smith, Craig David, Aphex Twin and Giggs have all been given a nod for British Male Solo Artist.

Ezra is also up for British Album of the Year for Staying At Tamara's alongside The 1975, Anne-Marie, Florence and the Machine and Jorja Smith.
