Bradley Cooper’s ex-wife Jennifer Esposito has defended herself after she was accused of taking a swipe at the actor’s relationship with his A Star is Born co-star Lady Gaga.

The American actress, who was briefly married to Cooper in 2006, came under fire after she left a comment on actor David Spade’s Instagram post about the co-stars duet at the Oscars on Sunday night.

Spade’s post read: “Is there any chance these two aren’t f******?”

Esposito simply responded with “Ha!”, which put her at the forefront of abuse from spectators online.

The 45-year-old initially expressed “confusion” over the backlash before sharing a four-minute rant on Instagram, questioning if “everyone has gone mad.”

She said: “You know so many people have been commenting about something that I said which was like this, ready – ‘Ha’ - that was it

"And in the way that it has spread, and it was towards David Spade's very outward statement about something about an ex, and I literally laughed at him because he was so bold in what he was saying, and I thought it was funny. And I'm allowed to think something is funny."

She went on to add that there are other topics in the world that “need attention”, branding the backlash “insanity”.

Esposito added: “To find that people are making judgment calls about me, or them, or the people that the comment was about is really psychotic.”

Cooper, who is dating model Irina Shayk, made headlines with his performance of hit song Shallow with Gaga, which left fans commenting on their “chemistry.”

Viewers also joked Shayk may have been left a little “jealous” by the duet.
