Blur's Alex James wants to use the name Britpop for a new drink.

The bass player applied for the trademark in October last year and it was published for consultation by the UK's Intellectual Property Office on January 10, according to City AM.

It is not yet known what the musician's plans are for the drink but music website Buzzfeed claims the application covers "beverages enriched with added minerals", "low alcohol beer" and "alcopops", popular with young drinkers.

The Parklife hitmaker, who was a big part of the 90s Britpop scene, already holds the trademark on a number of different names for cheese, including Blue Monday, Figgy Pudding and Farleigh Wallop.

In 2012, UK supermarket Asda chose to stop stocking his cheeses, claiming the dairy products' flavours were "ahead of their time."

Last summer, Blur frontman Damon Albarn reportedly confirmed that the he will reunite with his bandmates, including Alex, drummer Dave Rowntree and guitarist Graham Coxon, to record a new album following the release of his own forthcoming solo LP.

Dave also recently began hosting his own weekly radio show on XFM every Thursday between 9pm and 10pm, playing an "eclectic selection of music alongside some incredible stories about his outstanding music career."

In 2013, the band played at the Rock Werchter in Belgium, the Spanish and Portuguese dates of the Primavera Sound Festival, and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in America.
