Benedict Cumberbatch gave fans a glimpse of himself in character as Doctor Strange as he was spotted dashing through New York.

The British star, who is currently shooting scenes for the new Marvel film, was seen on set with co-star Chiwetel Ejiofor over the weekend.

Onlookers looked slightly confused as the Sherlock star was filmed running down a New York street in full costume.

The 39-year-old is playing the lead role in the eagerly-anticipated film, directed by Scott Derrickson, about a surgeon who gets trained by a sorcerer to fight evil.

During a break in filming, Cumberbatch decided to give fans a little treat my dropping by a local comic book store.

Dressed in full costume, the actor and director Derrickson paid JHU Comic Books a visit and posed with shoppers inside.

The strong British cast reunites 12 Years A Slave co-stars Cumberbatch and Ejiofor while Tilda Swinton plays The Ancient One.

Speaking about the role and working with Cumberbatch again, Ejiofor recently said:

“He's a good friend of mine. So, it's gonna be fun. And Tilda Swinton - I haven't worked with her, but I'm excited to work with her. She's brilliant.”
