Thanks to his success in One Direction, as a soloist and as an actor, it’s little wonder that Harry Styles has some of the most dedicated fans in showbiz.

Their love for the 26-year-old really has no bounds, with letters, pictures and even fan fiction written about the star.

But it seems not everyone is bowled over by Styles’ large and passionate fanbase, with actor Ansel Elgort taking it upon himself to call out one particular fan on Twitter.

The Styles supporter wrote: "You don't know how happy you make me every day. I wish I can meet you one day and hug you, follow me please? I love you!"

They accompanied their tweet with a picture of an envelope, with the words ‘all my love for u’ [sic] written on it.

Elgort, 26, then shared the tweet with his 3.7 million followers, writing: “People are legitimately crazy on this app.”

He added that Styles "isn't even on" Twitter - though he does have an account where updates on his tours and albums are shared.

Elgort found the original tweet in question through a thread he set up on his profile dedicated to following “stans” – particularly passionate fans of a certain celebrity.

When the Baby Driver star’s tweet attracted over 62,000 likes and resulted in him becoming the top trending celebrity on Twitter, Elgort seemingly grew bored of the attention he was receiving.

“Damn this is mad distracting,” he tweeted. “Next time I talk to you, I’ll have an album.”

Elgort is set to star as Tony in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, slated to hit cinemas at the end of the year.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Elgort said he was almost tricked into believing he didn’t get the esteemed part: “I get this unknown number. For some reason I answer it, and they said, ‘Hi, Ansel, Steven Spielberg wants to talk to you.’ I had already been auditioning a lot at the time and had been fighting for this role and it was Steven.

“And his tone sort of implied that maybe I wasn't get the role but I was so happy that would he call me and tell me I didn't get it."

He continued, "And turned into I did get it. He played me, too. He knew what he was doing."
