Alanis Morissette has had £1.6 million worth of jewellery stolen from her California home.

Thieves broke in to her house in Brentwood, which she shares with husband Mario Treadway and their two children Ever, 6, and Onyx, 7 months, last Thursday.

Morissette and her family were reportedly not in the house at the time.

Jewellery and a safe were stolen during the raid which also caused “some property damage”, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

According to TMZ, police believe the burglars could have targeted her home after seeing her Instagram posts featuring her jewellery collection.

The incident comes a month after Morissette's former business manager admitted stealing more than £5.7 million from the singer and other celebrities.

Jonathan Schwartz was charged with wire fraud and filing a false tax return for failing to report the embezzled funds.

The 48-year-old confessed to stealing from Morissette between 2010 and 2014. He used the money himself and falsely listed cash withdrawals as “sundry/personal expenses” to try and conceal his crime.

Eight-time Grammy winner Morissette is best known for her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill which featured her famous hit, Ironic.
