Fans have been chanting rude songs from the terraces about his wife for years. So you would think by now David Beckham was used to it.

But yesterday, Welsh soccer bosses felt the need to apologise to the England captain after a rap group insulted his wife Victoria during pre-match entertainment at the weekend.

The rappers - Goldie Lookin' Chain - declared they were dedicating a new single, Your Missus Is A Nutter, to Beckham's wife, saying: 'We've heard she likes a drink.'

Beckham was warming up on the Millennium Stadium pitch before the England vs Wales World Cup qualifier when the song was played.

The Football Association of Wales said they were 'horrified'. Secretary General David Collins added: 'I would like to go on record as issuing a public-apology to David Beckham and say this is a matter the Welsh FA are treating with great importance.

'This rap group were invited by us to participate in the day's events. We cannot permit this sort of thing again.

'People may say it was meant as a joke, and maybe we're fuddy-duddies, but we don't see it like that.'

Beckham played down the insults after England's 1-0 win in Cardiff at the weekend. He said: 'A few of the players mentioned it but not the comment about Victoria.'

Posh Spice also heard the taunts as she was seated in the middle tier of the Millennium Stadium at the time.

Goldie Lookin' Chain, who are from Newport in South Wales, insist the comment was meant as a joke.
