Michelle Dewberry and Ruth Badger square up to each other as they get ready to fight for a job with Sir Alan Sugar

The female finalists have been arm wrestling as they prepare to learn their fate.

They have been whittled down from 10,000 applicants who were desperate to land the six-figure job.

In the final hurdle, telecoms consultant Michelle, 26, and sales manager Ruth, 28, lead the apprentice-wannabes who have been sacked by Sir Alan in a task at Tower Bridge.

Paul Tulip, a head-hunter from Leeds, and Ansell Henry, a sales manager from Brighton, were knocked out after a grilling by the Amstrad founder's advisers last week.

Michelle, the youngest of the candidates, rose from check-out girl to running her own business and collecting a £100,000 salary.

She got close to fellow candidate Syed Ahmed during the series.

The BBC2 show won a TV Bafta for best feature at last night's awards ceremony.

Ruth, from Wolverhampton, has wowed Sir Alan with her selling skills but her straight-talking manner has ruffled a few feathers.
