Laura Robson will be hoping to replicate the heroics of her compatriot Heather Watson at Wimbledon by pulling off a huge upset against 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone.

Watson, 20, earned high praise for defeating Czech world number 52 Iveta Benesova 6-2 6-1 on Centre Court. Robson, junior champion at SW19 in 2009, won the hearts of the nation last summer when she put up a determined fight against current world number one Maria Sharapova before eventually falling to a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 defeat.

On Tuesday morning she will have to be at the top of her game again if she is to stand any chance of beating Schiavone, who has 13 years more experience than her.

Johanna Konta, born in Australia but now representing Britain, is second up on Court 17 as she tries to pull off another shock against 28th seed Christina McHale.

Konta, 21, took the first set of the match, but McHale hit back to take the second. Bad light forced play to be suspended at 9pm on Monday night and the two will return to Court 17 after Matthew Ebden finishes his game against Benoit Paire.

The number one and two ranked British women, Anne Keothavong and Elena Baltacha, begin their Wimbledon campaigns when they face Laura Pous-Tio and Karin Knapp respectively.

Scotland's Jamie Baker faces the match of his life against Andy Roddick on Court One while James Ward takes on Pablo Andujar of Spain on Court 14.

Three Britons crashed out of Wimbledon on Monday. Stockport's Naomi Broady lost 6-4 7-6 (7/4) to Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

Josh Goodall and Oliver Golding both fell to defeat despite spirited performances in their matches against Grega Zemlja and Igor Andreev respectively.

Goodall lost 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 to world number 43 Zemlja, and Golding put up a good fight against his Russian opponent, who is ranked 398 above him, on Court Two.
