Pietersen takes to the field

If Kevin Pietersen comes through the match against Yorkshire he should still make the Ashes
21 June 2013

Kevin Pietersen will begin his competitive comeback in the field after Surrey won the toss and chose to bowl in their LV= County Championship match with Yorkshire.

As expected Pietersen was named in the Brown Caps side at Headingley, making his first on-field appearance since flying home early from England's tour of New Zealand with a right knee injury in March.

He was subsequently ruled out of the return series as well as the Champions Trophy, but if he comes through this match the 32-year-old should still be on course to make the Ashes.

The match also represents Alec Stewart's first in charge of Surrey following the sacking of Chris Adams, but there will be no Ricky Ponting.

The Australia great, who on Thursday announced he would retire from all cricket in October, has a sore hand and will be replaced by Ireland's Gary Wilson.
