Oosthuizen to sit out US PGA

Louis Oosthuizen is undergoing a 'period of rest, rehabilitation and strengthening'
31 July 2013

Louis Oosthuizen has been ruled out of the US PGA Championship due to injury.

The South African withdrew from the recent Open Championship at Muirfield because of long-standing injuries to his neck, back and hip and is now expected to spend two months out of the game to undergo "a period of rest, rehabilitation and strengthening".

Oosthuizen, who will miss this week's WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio before sitting out the PGA at Oak Hill, said in a statement: "It is obviously very disappointing to miss out on playing in such prestigious tournaments.

"But these are injuries that I have been managing for most of the season. It is important that I now give myself the proper time to recover."

The 2010 Open Championship winner is expected to return at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews in late September.
