Chambers in final as fastest loser

Dwain Chambers is through to the 60m final in Sopot
8 March 2014

Dwain Chambers' bid for a fourth successive medal at the World Indoor Championships remained alive on Saturday, but only by the narrowest of margins.

Chambers, who won the 60 metres title in 2010, silver in 2008 and bronze two years ago, could only finish fourth in his semi-final in Sopot's Ergo Arena in 6.58 seconds.

That meant an anxious wait to see if he would claim a place in the final as one of the two fastest losers, which he did when Guyana's Adam Harris was third in the remaining semi-final in 6.59secs.

There were no such worries for team-mate Richard Kilty, the 24-year-old advancing to Saturday evening's final by finishing second in the opening semi in 6.52s, taking 0.01s off his personal best.

Tiffany Porter had also reached the final of the 60m hurdles after finishing third in her semi-final behind Olympic champion Sally Pearson.

Britain's first chance of a medal was in the men's pole vault, but Luke Cutts got off to a nervous start with two failures before clearing his opening height of 5.40m.

Cutts, who set a new British record of 5.83m earlier this year, also needed two attempts to clear 5.55m to lie in seventh place as the competition progressed.
