Three held over pub stabbing murder

Three men have been arrested after a father-of-one was murdered in a suspected case of mistaken identity outside a pub.

Christopher Foster, 34, was fatally stabbed in Borough High Street, London, as he smoked with a friend in an alleyway outside St Christopher's Inn.

Scotland Yard said three men aged 25, 29 and 33 were arrested today and remain in custody at a south London police station.

Mr Foster was attacked by a hooded gang who were brandishing baseball bats and at least one knife o n Friday November 29.

P olice were called to Borough High Street at around 11.45pm and Mr Foster was taken to the Royal London Hospital where he died at 1.05am the following morning.

A post-mortem examination at Greenwich Public Mortuary gave the cause of death as a single stab wound to the back.

Mr Foster, from Southwark, worked in administration for a firm of lawyers and was father to a four-year-old girl.

Officers believe his murder was a case of mistaken identity.

Mr Foster's mother, Jean Foster, said her son was "a well loved man" and the family hoped the police would "get justice for Chris".

Two people have already been arrested and bailed.

A 30-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of murder, has been bailed until late January pending further inquiries.

A 32-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been bailed until early February pending further inquiries.
