A man and a woman have been charged with manslaughter and causing or allowing the death of a child in connection with the drug death of a toddler earlier this year.

The 29-year-old man and 33-year-old woman are due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court.

Both were detained by police in Penn, Wolverhampton on Wednesday and charged after the death of 23-month-old Daniel Jones.

He was pronounced dead by paramedics who responded to a call to a house in the city at 6.15am on May 29.

Detectives from West Midlands Police immediately launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the boy's death which was initially treated as unexplained.

Recent forensic tests showed Daniel's death was caused by a heroin overdose.
